Are There Any Medical Conditions That Prevent Participation?

Certain medical conditions, particularly those involving psychiatric disorders or heart conditions, may contraindicate Ayahuasca use. Discussing your medical history with a healthcare professional and informing the retreat center of any health conditions is essential.

What Is the Role of the Shaman in an Ayahuasca Ceremony?

The shaman plays a crucial role in guiding the ceremony, setting the intention, calling in allies of the natural and cultural world and ensuring the safety of participants. He will use his knowledge of traditional practices to navigate the ceremony and support participants. Our Shaman’s role is deeply rooted in indigenous traditions, and he is a sound spiritual guide and healer.

What are the ingredients used in our Ayahuasca?

We use two ingredients in our Ayahuasca, the Ayahuasca vine and the leaves of Chacruna.

Do I need to get any vaccinations?

Peru does not require any vaccinations.

Should I be worried about Malaria?

Iquitos is known to be a high-risk area when it comes to Malaria, so it is a concern for some. However, we do NOT recommend taking anti-malarial medication when drinking Ayahuasca, as it has been known to cause complications. What we offer instead is a natural remedy taken every day of the retreats. We have never had a case of malaria in anyone taking this remedy. For this reason, we don’t feel you should be worried about Malaria, however this is not medical advice.

Is there electricity?

No. A disconnection from modern amenities is essential to experiencing the true indigenous traditions of the Amazonian peoples. There are many fairly priced hotels and hostels in the main part of Iquitos.

Is there cell service or wi-fi?

Not at the retreat but with a foreign phone, you can call local Iquitos numbers or use apps like Signal, WhatsApp and Facebook to communicate internationally.
